Polity Bowl: Presbyterians WIN!!

Sorry - it's been awhile. I know. My excuse is finals and reading week! Yesterday was the annual Polity Bowl which is a flag-football game between the Presbyterian and Episcopalian seminaries in Austin. The game was very exciting but there were other aspects of the event that made me proud to be a member of the APTS community. Our president and student body president both painted their faces blue and white while Pres. Ted Wardlaw led our crowd in a cheer - "Give me a 'T'! - Give me an O! - Give me a T!" and so on...what does that spell? "Total depravity!" It was very entertaining. We also had a pep band which consisted of a clarinet and trombone. One member of the seminary community dressed up in a kilt and marched around with a Scottish flag. Our players had a lot of support from our community and after the game we all were invited to the Episcopal seminary for BBQ and beer - of course. Something surprising about the day was a reporter from the Austin American-Statesmen was there taking pictures of the game. My next entry will be the pictures which were in the Sunday paper today. How cool!! Needless to say, Presbyterians got some good press in Austin, Texas today!! But probably the coolest thing about this event was the ecumenical witness that took place. There was great respect for each other and I pray that even an event as small as this can help unite the church instead of building walls and making boundaries to separate us. Pray for me throughout finals week and as I travel home for Christmas. Peace be with all of you as we progress through Advent towards the birth of our Savior.
